Gema Lax
My name is Gema, and I left Spain in 2015 after completing a master's degree in Economics in Barcelona. My adventure began in Geneva, where I moved to be with my partner and find a university where I could pursue a PhD. During that first year, I worked both at the United Nations and at the university, combining professional and academic experience.
After that, we moved to Lausanne, where I lived several very intense years: I finished my PhD in Economics, got married, and my two daughters were born. In 2021, we took another step and moved to Milan, where we continue to develop our careers at the university.
Despite the distance and living abroad, I miss Murcia terribly. What I miss most is not being able to be near my family and enjoy the wonderful weather that is so characteristic of my homeland. Every time I return, there are two things I absolutely must do: stroll through the city and enjoy a marinera, a small pleasure that instantly connects me to my roots.
I try to return to Murcia often so my daughters can truly know their roots, our traditions, and feel that, even though they live far away, there's always a place they can call home. Because, even though life takes us down different paths, Murcia remains the heart that accompanies us.
