ALCE Program: Don't let your children lose their Spanish

If you have school-age children and live abroad, you probably have that thorn in your side: you want them to speak and write perfect Spanish and, if possible, have an official qualification to prove it. The ALCE (Spanish Language and Culture Groups) are free classes offered by the Spanish Ministry of Education for children of residents abroad. But be aware that places are filling up fast, and registration for the 2026-2027 academic year is just around the corner .

2026 Registration Calendar: Mark your calendars!

While each country may have slight variations, the bulk of registrations happen now. Here are the key dates for the most common groupings:

Switzerland (Zurich, Bern, Geneva…): From February 15 to March 31, 2026.
United Kingdom and Ireland: From February 2 to February 27, 2026.
Germany: The official deadline opens on February 15 and ends at the end of March.
France (Paris, Lyon, Toulouse…): From February 14 to March 28, 2026.
USA and Canada: From February 20 to March 20, 2026.

Important: If you miss the March deadline, most groups won't accept new members until the following year. Don't leave it until the last minute.

Free Official Qualification: Upon completion of the course, students receive official level certificates (B2 or C1) . This is a free official language qualification for their future, valid throughout the EU.
Zero cost: It's a public service. Registration and classes are free.
Emotional connection: It's the best way for them to understand why in Murcia we celebrate the Bando de la Huerta or why paprika is sacred in your kitchen.

How to register?

The entire process is done online. You must access the Ministry's official website, where you will find the list of countries and specific links for each regional education authority:

Access the official ALCE website – Ministry of Education (Note: Although the link mentions 2024 in the URL, it is the permanent portal that is updated with the annual calls for applications).

Remember: You will need to have your Spanish ID card or passport (yours or the child's) and be registered at the consulate. Good luck with the registration!
